Promotional Items – Going With Quality Or Not?

Different types of marketing work in different ways. Promotional campaigns can be a great way to generate a lot of interest in your business or product line. The question is what products do you use to do this, to wit, should you go with quality items or something cheap and plentiful?

Pens. They are perhaps the predominant form of promotional item on the market. I hate them. What does a pen say? Nothing. I have hundreds of promotional pens and most are complete junk. They break or run out of ink quickly. Is this a product I want to promote my company with? Not bloody likely.

I am of a very strong belief that the quality of your promotional item should be a reflection of your company. I will give you an example. A friend of mine purchased a Land Rover for an ungodly some of money. He gave me a call and we went for a spin in it. The ride was nice and all, but it was the promotional item that really caught my attention.

The Land Rover is sold as a top of the market SUV. I probably don’t have to tell you that. So, what did the company offer as a promotional item? It was a very cool leather travel journal with the Land Rover logo embossed on it. The basic idea was, as a new Land Rover owner, you would be going and doing interesting things and here was something to keep track of your adventures.

Did the product cinch the sale? Not a chance, but that wasn’t my focus. Instead, it was the quality of the product. Land Rover is supposed to be a top quality company. The promotional item they selected reflected that. I mean, when was the last time you were given a leather promotional item? Probably never. It made a real impression and that, after all, is the point of the promotion!
